White scum is a stain that occurs on, primarily, new brick and it is almost always caused by improper cleaning.
This is one of the worst cases of white scum that I have had to remove. I've outlined in red a couple of the areas showing the stain.
The detergent we used to clean this brick was Prosoco's 800 detergent, then we rubbed down the limestone with sandpaper and we have a few trade secrets. That's it, needless to say everyone was happy after we were finished, particularly the mason contractor.
